More views about living in local care homes

Here’s the last summary of the ‘Enter & View’ reports we’ve published as part of our care homes project:

ABBEYFIELD HOUSE CARE HOME

Residents interviewed: 13

Selection of comments:

‘I like everything about living here.’

‘Staff can’t do enough, very patient.’

‘The food is excellent – we always want it.’

‘I have help getting up, though I can wash myself.’

Healthwatch Reading observations:

We observed positive interactions between staff and residents, including conversation and laughter, as well as appropriate assistance to residents as required.

Residents’ main suggestion for improvement: 

Some residents want more activities during the evening or at weekend.

LIFE CARE HOME

Residents interviewed: 16

Selection of comments:

‘Food is good, carers look after me.’

‘Carers look after me well.’

‘Can go to the garden whenever I like.’

Healthwatch Reading observations:

We were told that there is an activities coordinator who works Monday-Friday, but no timetable was given when we asked to see it.

Residents’ main suggestion for improvement: 

Some residents want more activities and to go out more.

MULBERRY HOUSE CARE HOME

Residents interviewed: 15

Selection of comments:

‘The staff look after me well.’

‘Nice people, food good, enjoys having visitors.’

‘If anything is wrong the carers come and talk to me.’

Healthwatch Reading observations:

We observed that the communal area had a snack station with drinks at which the residents could help themselves.

Residents’ main suggestion for improvement:

Some residents want to go out more or have more activities and have more choice of food.
