Modernising Day Care Services for Older Peoples. Reading Borough Council is committed to Council-run day services for older people. However, the council recognise that people are now living longer with healthier lives, and expectations of day care are now changing. As a result, the demand for traditional day services is reducing – nationally and locally.

Government launches care comparison website.

The website will hold information to help people choose, compare and comment on residential care homes and home care services is now available on NHS Choices. The new care profiles provide the most comprehensive source of information on care services. Launched today by Care and Support Minister, Norman Lamb, they help people to search and compare residential care homes and home care services and make confident choices about registered care for themselves or family members.

The new independent consumer champion Healthwatch launches across England

Healthwatch is the new independent consumer champion for health and social care and launches across England from 1st April. The network is made up of the nationally-focused Healthwatch England leading 152 community-focused local Healthwatch. Together they form the Healthwatch network, working closely to ensure consumers’ views are represented both locally and nationally. This is the first time a national champion has been set up with independent statutory powers to act on behalf of both adults and children.

Healthwatch Reading gains Charity status

On the 22 March 2013 we are pleased to announce that Healthwatch Reading was granted Charity status. Reading was among the first local Healthwatch to achieve this status.
